RC Online - The Online Resource for UN Resident Coordinators

RC/HC/DO Profiles

The Resident Coordinator (RC) system aims to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. Resident Coordinators lead UN Country Teams in more than 131 countries and are the designated representatives of the Secretary-General for development operations. These profiles provide insights on the ground realities of the work based on the personal experience of serving RCs as well as those RCs who also have combined roles including for humanitarian coordination work, the Designated Official for security and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, in the context of the integrated mission.

Numerous issues are addressed in these interviews, ranging from the career path and motivations to becoming an RC, key challenges of the position, advice on what works for effective coordination and team leadership, amongst others. A number of interviews provided by OCHA serve to demonstrate effective leadership practices that have been adopted to advance the agenda for Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
